Synopsis
Children are not our pets. They are free beings. It is through them that the world writes its hopes. What we call “realisation” is often an instinctive knowledge that children already possess.
Children are also the measure of our limitations. When we look at them, we can see what we have lost.
Seven-Coloured Dream is built upon this very vision. The dreams they see are the dreams we have lost. The distances they cross lead to places we were hesitant to venture into. The truths they speak shatter the lies we have built.
Like the seven colours of the rainbow, this film too has seven chapters. Its children inhabit landscapes that range from the sea to the forest, from the village to the city, from solitude to celebration, and from isolation to estrangement, from laughter to tears. Boys and girls are part of this world. We encounter those who are alone as well as those who revel in the company of others.
Each chapter becomes a meeting place where what children have to tell us converges with what we have to tell them. These visual chapters, moving from violet to red, mark the different seasons of their lives. They can be experienced separately, yet they also come together as one whole—like the seven strings of a musical instrument, each producing a different note, yet together creating a single music.
Just as seven colours merge to create white light, these seven chapters come together to create a larger vision.
The film firmly reminds us that children think, feel, question and experience emotions—just as deeply as adults do.
