Synopsis
In this dialogue-free, 3D animated short, a simple childhood act becomes a lifeline. The film was inspired by the striking, real-world image of individuals surviving devastating floods by seeking sanctuary within the sturdy branches of large mango trees—a powerful testament to nature becoming a place of refuge.
This theme is brought to life when a young boy finishes eating a fruit and, guided by his mother's gentle hand, plants the seed rather than casting it away. As the boy grows into a man, the seed blossoms into a massive, life-giving tree. However, the outside world soon encroaches. Witnessing his neighbors chopping down their forests for quick coin, the young man is tempted to do the same. Axe in hand, he is only stopped by his mother's weathered touch, reminding him of their roots. While the surrounding fields are stripped into a barren, dusty wasteland by greedy laborers, the man's land remains a vibrant oasis.
When a sudden, violent flash flood sweeps across the desolate landscape, the treeless neighbors are washed away. The young man survives only by climbing into the sturdy branches of his beloved mango tree. The Mango Tree is a poignant visual fable about the enduring bond between humanity and nature, reminding us that protecting our environment is ultimately about protecting ourselves.
